Interesting facts about Punjabis .

Interesting facts about my religion .

by Devika Taneja

My ancestors belonged to those areas of lush green wheat fields, countryside dotted with yellow mustard flowers and beautiful nourishing rivers ,the beautiful land of Punjab , I am a Punjabi. Punjab is one of India's most fertile and beautiful state.

Today the Punjabi culture is spreading across the globe merging itself with others making itself more diverse and lovely. Here are some of the things that I love being a Punjabi.

Punjabis follow three principles-devotion to creator, truthful living and service to humanity. These principles has been in practice since years. The community portrays practice of these at its temples like the Golden Temple .The golden temple has the largest free kitchen in the world attracting million of devotees, here the operation and maintenance  is all done through donation ;task of cleaning ,Langar cooking is all done by volunteers. It is open to all religions and caste .

Punjabi and Sikhism revolutionized the society. Gurus of these communities took to advocate equality of women .Women began to partake in social religious political affairs. Gurus taught that men and women are equal in eyes of  God and so are equal in rights on the earth .

Punjabi culture does not support any superstition ,the religion teaches not to believe in bad or good moment but to believe in bad or good deeds, its always "Kar bhala te ho bhala"-the good you do comes back to you.

Punjabi cuisine has taken the world by storm. We believe the way to a persons' heart is through their stomach. from makhana topped Aloo de paronthe  to murg makhni Punjabi food is famous for its rich creamy spices recipes .Also the frothy lassi moustache is a sign of a happy Punjabi meal.

Sannu Ki? is the answer to every problem that's not under our control. Punjabis are taught not to worry about anything in life, it is the creator who created you and will take care of you at every level.

The thing I love the most about my culture is that Punjabis are among the liveliest people you will ever meet. They always look for new ways to enjoy life to the fullest.
